Door Entry Systems (1)

Comprising a control panel, which incorporates a card reader, keypad or both, and door lock, door-entry systems are a form of access control system that monitors and, if necessary, restricts movement of individuals through doors in commercial or residential buildings. While purely mechanical systems are still popular among homeowners, in businesses and residential blocks digital systems are now standard. Wireless locks are increasingly affordable and make installation considerably easier and cheaper.

Electronic door entry systems mean facilities or security managers know how many people occupy a building or specific rooms at any given time and the identity of occupants. Moreover, when a fob or keycard is lost or stolen, it can be deactivated, reducing the risk of unauthorized access. Pin-code governed access circumvents the need to carry credentials, but arguably poses a risk insofar as someone can watch someone keying in a passcode.

Innovation in this field is focused on enhancing not just security but flexibility and convenience for both building managers and occupants.
