Specsavers Corporate Eyecare
is celebrating the successful launch of a brand new eyecare service for
ScotRail. The new Visual Acuity Assessment has been established by Specsavers
Corporate Eyecare to meet the specific needs of Scotland’s railway alliance.
ScotRail is using Specsaver’s
eVoucher system to provide Visual Acuity Assessments for around 3,000
safety-critical employees, including train drivers and those working on
platforms and beside the tracks. Each appropriate employee is provided with a
visual acuity test and glasses, if required.
Nadya Kuhl, occupational health manager
for ScotRail, explains: ‘We required a very specific eyecare service, which we
could not find provided in a simple and convenient format. We had previously
been using an occupational health provider for a similar facility but they were
based in Glasgow and ScotRail has staff located throughout Scotland. We were
faced with the unsatisfactory situation where employees were having to take
time off work to travel, and sometimes book overnight accommodation, for their
eye test, and again to collect their glasses. The service provided by
Specsavers fits our needs exactly.’
Dona McLafferty, corporate account
manager for Specsavers Corporate Eyecare in Scotland, said: ‘We were keen to
work with ScotRail to provide a solution to their problem. We have over 65
Specsavers stores in Scotland alone so we knew that we could solve the issue of
geographical coverage. We did not have an existing eVoucher to cover the
specific needs of a Visual Acuity Assessment so we set up a brand new service
and carried out a comprehensive pilot scheme to ensure the benefit could be
rolled out successfully to all relevant members of staff. The scheme is now in
full provision and is proving extremely successful.’
The Visual Acuity Assessment is providing
a great cost saving for ScotRail, especially due to the efficiencies of scale
and location. ScotRail also appreciates the clarity on spend, with the online
eVoucher management system being transparent and easy to manage.
The official contact start date
was 26 June 2017 but Specsavers wanted to complete dedicated trials and pilots
of the new service to ensure it was running smoothly before announcing the
news.
