Spotlight on Safe Hub: There’s an app for that

26 Apr 2018

At Lone Worker Solutions, we’re absolutely committed to protecting your lone workers using Safe Hub. Our proprietary lone worker monitoring system supports a full range of emergency, buddy, proactive, reactive, broadcast and virtual barrier functions, getting lone workers the help they need and keeping them out of trouble in the first place. By pinpointing the exact location of your worker, our Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) can get assistance to them as quickly as possible if the need arises.

Safe Hub App supports lone workers an any mobile devices Sa. fe Hub’s advanced smartphone app includes all of our features. Designed to work seamlessly across all handsets, the app is available for Android, Apple and Windows smartphones. It can be downloaded from your app store or device management software.

For some lone workers in certain situations, they may require a dedicated device (for instance, if they are constantly on the go, or are in areas where mobile phone signals are poor or non-existent). We had a closer look at these devices in a previous blog. But many lone workers will access our suite of lone worker protection features via standard communications and computer technology. Especially if you’re already supplying those workers with a mobile device, it’s worth bearing in mind that this may be the most cost-effective way of providing lone worker protection.

Smartphone app: Safe Hub runs seamlessly in the background
Whether it’s an Android, Apple or Windows phone, the Safe Hub app works seamlessly to provide your lone workers with support. The apps can easily be downloaded by end-users from their app store or mobile device management software (whichever operating system they use). This is especially suited to workers who already have a smartphone provided by your organisation, and who do not wish to carry an additional device.

Some of the key features include:

  • An emergency SOS button which overrides the handset’s keypad lock, allowing fast access to our Red Alert feature in an emergency (supported on Android and iPhone).
  • By tapping the Yellow Alert button on their smartphone screen, lone workers can record detailed task- or location-specific information to provide the ARC with context should a Red Alert be triggered.
  • Users of the smartphone app can easily programme the intervals for Safe Check (our periodic welfare check feature), and enable the feature as soon as they need it.
  • The Worker Down feature runs seamlessly in the background, deploying the smartphone’s motion and shock sensors without interrupting its normal function.
  • Group Alert messages are available throughout all the screens in the app, providing lone workers with information they might need to keep out of trouble
  • GPS and GPRS technology provide accurate location data, allowing the fastest possible alert transmission to the ARC in an emergency.

  • BlackBerry and standard mobiles app: speed dials and SMS
Safe Hub features can be accessed from BlackBerry handsets and standard mobile phones via easy-to-use speed dials and SMS programming. None of these require technical ability, and full training is provided as standard.

Desktop and Laptop app: intuitive protection for remote or desk-based workers
The Safe Hub Desktop App is ideal for workers based at home, office staff who work late or out-of-sight of colleagues, and mobile staff who regularly use a laptop. The intuitive Desktop app provides access to Red Alert and Safe Check features, covering both emergency and proactive support.

Multiple users, multiple devices – and one easy-to-manage platform.
In many organisations, there are multiple lone working scenarios, and this means that your organisation might need multiple devices. That’s an area where Lone Worker Solutions excels. Safe Hub supports the widest possible range of devices, all of which can easily be managed and monitored through a single easy-to-use web-based management system. This can provide an unlimited number of staff profiles, and a complete range of devices.

    Case study: Warwick Estates
As a leading residential and commercial property management company, Warwick Estates was looking for a system which would provide protection for different job functions and their working situations. Following an 18-month evaluation, Warwick Estates has deployed LoneWorker Manager to support its extensive team of property managers and caretakers at sites across London.

Warwick selected the smartphone app for property managers who already had iPhones as part of their job involved working on site with clients and suppliers. This removed the need for staff to carry, and learn to use, an additional device. Meanwhile, all caretaking staff have been supplied with a SOS Fob, a discreet device that features a prominent emergency button. As this team are responsible for building maintenance, they are often in both public and private areas of the buildings, and it was felt that this device better suited their working patterns.

“We place a tremendous importance on the safety and wellbeing of our staff and contractors. Team members go onto many property sites in a day, and the Safe Hub app and SOS Fob will help to find them in an emergency, as well as providing support if staff encounter difficult situations with leaseholders or on-site suppliers” Jason Clarke, head of Health and Safety at Warwick Estates
