UKATA Working Well Together on 17 April

On Tuesday 17 April from 8.30 am, UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) Director Chris Bishop will address between 60 -100 delegates at the North East Working Well Together (WWT) event, held at The Durham Centre. Following feedback from the last North East event on what topics should be covered, delegates felt they needed more information on the types of training needed for some aspects of asbestos work. This led to Chris being invited to discuss the topics, including what type of information, instruction and asbestos training is necessary, including notifiable non-licensed work, surveys and asbestos essentials.

“WWT has established itself as a key driver of health and safety performance and we are delighted Chris has been asked to speak at the event,” said UKATA General Manager Craig Evans. “The fact that delegates have asked for this talk suggests our message on asbestos safety is getting through.”

Established in 1998, WWT was set up by the Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC), recognising the need for the industry itself to do more to improve its own health and safety performance, particularly among smaller businesses. 50,000 people have attended WWT events and more than 60 events are held each year, with this one addressing vital issues surrounding asbestos safety.

“UKATA share concerns over improving health and safety among smaller businesses.  Our messages on asbestos safety will be reaching the right people and we look forward to attending and contributing to more of these events in the future”, added Craig.

Chris will cover the categories of asbestos work and the typical training needed for each; plus examples of types of work covered under each category. Chris will provide delegates with a snapshot of asbestos essentials and will also address the issue of surveys; covering what’s involved, who should undertake them and importantly, to recognise what makes for a good and a bad survey.

Places are still available at the event, which will feature a speaker from the HSE on Enforcement and Inspections strategy, with others discussing CDM selection of contractors; Monitoring; Behaviour Change and other construction industry concerns.
