Ultimate grass maintenance safety on display at Health & Safety Expo

15 Apr 2019

The team behind the UK distribution of what are commonly referred to as the 'world's safest mowers' are pleased to be hosting stand SH1040.

Showcasing the remote-controlled Spider slope mower, the team will be on hand to discuss all of the safety benefits of remote-controlled mowing on steep, uneven or dangerous terrain.

Often used by contractors, local authorities, sports clubs, education providers and much more, Spider mowers can be found safely maintaining grassed areas alongside roads, motorways, railway verges, power plants, airfields, reservoirs, waterways, embankments and even around heritage property moats!

Controlled remotely from up to 100m away, there is zero risk from HAV, WBV or noise, while the operator remains away from danger.

Spiders also offer ultimate productivity equalling that of 15x operators with strimmers or a tractor with boom mower arm!

The team behind what are often called ‘the safest professional mowers in the market’ will be attending the 2019 Safety & Health Expo at Excel London on 18th to 20th June and invite you to visit them on stand SH1040.

Spider mowers are commercial remote-controlled mowers for use in high-risk areas where it is considered unsafe to cut grass with a traditional walk-behind mower or ride-on lawnmower.

Spiders are now commonly found across the UK working in environments including alongside highways and railway tracks; beside waterways and reservoirs; at airfields; military sites; power stations and heritage properties.

Whilst perfectly at home in these more unusual environments, the versatility of a Spider mower also lends itself to use at more conventional sites such as schools, colleges and universities; private estates; vineyards and orchards; sports venues and golf courses, and municipal areas such as housing estates, parks and gardens.

One of the primary safety benefits of a Spider is its ability to cut grass on slopes of up to 40° independently, or up to 55° using the integrated hydraulic winch.

These gradients are often referred to in risk assessments as ‘exceeding the safe operating limits’ of standard mowers and requiring additional, specialist machines.

It is in these locations where time and again it is proven that it is just not safe for an operative to work using standard grass cutting machinery, resulting in site damage, near-misses, injuries and sadly in some instances death.

Controlled from up to 100 metres away, Spider operatives remain out of harm’s way and away from risk of injury whilst controlling the machine, with full visibility of the site and surrounding hazards.

The remote operation also ensures absolutely zero hand-arm vibration, zero whole-body vibration, and distance from noise exposure, making for completely safe use all day long.

The low unit weight also prevents damage to turf and eliminates soil erosion, whilst low fuel consumption means less money spent on powering the machine and fewer emissions into the environment.

This high level of safety does not mean a compromise on productivity either.

With the largest model, the ILD02, capable of productivity equal to 15 operatives with strimmers, and all machines featuring a unique 4-wheel drive system enabling them to turn 360° on their axis for quick manoeuvring – you’ll get huge value for money from a Spider.

In fact, the ILD01 can mow up to 7000m2 per hour, covering huge areas quickly and easily.

With a powerful mulching cutting deck, cutting the grass into tiny pieces which fertilise the turf, the versatile Spider mowers can be used on sloping, hazardous or flat terrain with the same set up – perfect for tackling long brush and weeds on inclines before moving onto level playing fields or parks for more regular maintenance.

Visit the Spider team to find out more and arrange a free on-site demonstration – find us on Stand SH1040 at the Safety & Health Expo on 18th to 20th June, at Excel London.

Tickets are free of charge and include access to Firex International, IFSEC International security show and Facilities Show, all taking place at the same time at Excel London.
