Why Civils Contractors Support CITB Levy System

A recent poll conducted by their trade association shows that Civils contractors support CITB levy system. The CITB, or Construction Industry Training Board, helps to ensure that workers have the right skills to remain competitive in the industry. Not only does this help the individual workers who undergo training, but it also helps the industry itself face challenges such as skilled worker shortages.

Overwhelming Support
It will come as no surprise to anyone working in the construction industry that Contractors Overwhelmingly Support Levy System. In fact, an incredible 79% of those polled voted to retain this system, with only 21% voting to have it scrapped. While industry professionals demonstrated general approval for the levy system, many construction industry workers have also called for an acceleration in reforms.

Cutting Bureaucracy
The CITB has recently been making steps toward cutting bureaucracy from their organization. These steps have been taken in order to improve communications and provide a more efficient and effective governance structure. Members of the CITB appreciate the steps toward reform that have already been undertaken, but they also enthusiastically support the organization continuing to make important changes at an increased pace.

Remaining Relevant
One of the advantages of continuing to push for bureaucratic changes is that it helps the CITB to remain relevant within the industry. After all, its purpose is to provide education and training for workers, and its operational costs are worker-funded by the CITB Levy. Ensuring that its members are happy with the changes that are being made and the rate at which they are being undertaken is an important step for the organization.

Alasdair Reisner, CECA's chief executive, cites the CITB's ability to coordinate training activities across different industry sectors as one of the primary reasons for the industry's show of overwhelming support. In order to continue providing this valuable service, the CITB must stay constantly on top of industry changes and challenges.

Results Broken Down by Size of Company
The information gathered in recent polls has been broken down according to CECA's English, Scottish, and Welsh regions, and according to company size. In both cases, members wholeheartedly backed the continuation of the levy system. However, while CECA has already returned the formal confirmation of the organization's consensus vote, further industry-wide voting outcomes will not be released until later in the fall.

Anticipating Future Changes
The CITB is expected to continue implementing relevant changes as further poll results are returned. While it's good news that Civils contractors support CITB levy systems currently, the organization will have to continue its reforms in order to maintain its high industry approval ratings.
